Description
The KRTAP23-1 (keratin associated protein 23-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.
KRTAP23-1 is a component of the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix provides structural support and strength to the hair shaft by forming disulfide bonds with hair keratins, which are rich in cysteine residues. The matrix also includes high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins.
KRTAP23-1 is also known as KAP23.1.
