KRTAP21-1

Description

The KRTAP21-1 (keratin associated protein 21-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP21-1, a hair keratin-associated protein, plays a crucial role in hair shaft formation. It contributes to the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex, where it interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments. Through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with abundant cysteine residues in hair keratins, KRTAP21-1 contributes to the rigidity and strength of the hair shaft.

KRTAP21-1 is also known as KAP21.1.
