KRTAP20-4

Description

The KRTAP20-4 (keratin associated protein 20-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP20-4 is a protein found in the hair cortex, where it plays a crucial role in hair shaft formation. It interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments, contributing to the rigid and resistant nature of the hair shaft. This is achieved through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with abundant cysteine residues of hair keratins. KRTAP20-4 is categorized as a high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratin.

KRTAP20-4 is also known as KAP20.4.
