KRTAP20-3

Description

The KRTAP20-3 (keratin associated protein 20-3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP20-3 is a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP) found in the hair cortex. It contributes to the formation of a strong and resilient hair shaft by interacting with hair keratin intermediate filaments and forming disulfide bonds with cysteine residues within the hair keratins. This protein is part of the interfilamentous matrix, a structure surrounding the keratin filaments, and is categorized as a high-sulfur, high-glycine-tyrosine keratin.

KRTAP20-3 is also known as KAP19D, KAP20.3, KRTAP19P4.
