KRTAP20-2

Description

The KRTAP20-2 (keratin associated protein 20-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP20-2 plays a crucial role in the structure and strength of hair. It forms part of the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex, where it interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments. Through extensive disulfide bond formation with cysteine residues in hair keratins, KRTAP20-2 contributes to the rigid and resistant nature of the hair shaft.

KRTAP20-2 is also known as KAP20.2.
