KRTAP19-6

Description

The KRTAP19-6 (keratin associated protein 19-6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP19-6, a hair keratin-associated protein, contributes to the formation of the hair shaft's rigid structure by forming an interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix is composed of KRTAPs, which cross-link extensively with hair keratins via disulfide bonds, facilitated by their high cysteine content. This cross-linking process is crucial for the hair shaft's strength and resistance.

KRTAP19-6 is also known as KAP19.6.
