KRTAP17-1

Description

The KRTAP17-1 (keratin associated protein 17-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP17-1 plays a crucial role in hair structure by forming an interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix, composed of hair keratin-associated proteins (KRTAP), is essential for the rigidity and strength of the hair shaft. KRTAP17-1 interacts with hair keratins via extensive disulfide bond cross-linking, facilitated by its abundant cysteine residues. This matrix also incorporates high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins.

KRTAP17-1 is also known as KAP17.1, KRTAP16.1, KRTAP17.1.
