KRTAP10-6

Description

The KRTAP10-6 (keratin associated protein 10-6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP10-6, a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP), contributes to the structural integrity of hair shafts. Within the hair cortex, KRTAP10-6 forms part of the interfilamentous matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments. This matrix is crucial for the formation of a rigid and resistant hair shaft, achieved through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking between KRTAP10-6 and hair keratins.

KRTAP10-6 is also known as KAP10.6, KAP18.6, KRTAP18-6, KRTAP18.6.
