KRTAP10-5

Description

The KRTAP10-5 (keratin associated protein 10-5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP10-5 plays a crucial role in hair shaft structure by contributing to the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. It forms extensive disulfide bonds with cysteine residues in hair keratins, leading to a rigid and resistant hair shaft. This protein belongs to the high-sulfur group of keratin-associated proteins, along with other high-glycine-tyrosine keratins, all contributing to the matrix's integrity.

KRTAP10-5 is also known as KAP10.5, KAP18-5, KAP18.5, KRTAP10.5, KRTAP18-5, KRTAP18.1, KRTAP18.5.
