KRTAP10-4

Description

The KRTAP10-4 (keratin associated protein 10-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP10-4, a member of the hair keratin-associated protein family, plays a crucial role in hair structure. It forms part of the interfilamentous matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex. This matrix provides strength and resilience to the hair shaft by forming extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, facilitated by the abundant cysteine residues present in KRTAP10-4. This protein contributes to the overall integrity and resistance of the hair fiber.

KRTAP10-4 is also known as KAP10.4, KAP18-4, KRTAP10.4, KRTAP18-4, KRTAP18.4.
