KRTAP10-10

Description

The KRTAP10-10 (keratin associated protein 10-10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

KRTAP10-10, a hair keratin-associated protein, plays a crucial role in the formation of the hair shaft. It forms a matrix around hair keratin intermediate filaments, providing strength and rigidity to the hair fiber. This function is achieved through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking between KRTAP10-10 and hair keratins, facilitated by the presence of abundant cysteine residues in KRTAP10-10. This protein belongs to the high-sulfur keratin-associated protein family, contributing to the overall structural integrity of hair.

KRTAP10-10 is also known as KAP10.10, KAP18.10, KRTAP18-10, KRTAP18.10.
