KRTAP1-1

Description

The KRTAP1-1 (keratin associated protein 1-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP1-1 plays a crucial role in hair shaft structure. It forms part of the interfilamentous matrix that surrounds hair keratin intermediate filaments within the hair cortex. This protein's abundant cysteine residues enable extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, contributing to the hair shaft's rigidity and strength.

KRTAP1-1 is also known as HB2A, KAP1.1, KAP1.1A, KAP1.1B, KAP1.6, KAP1.7, KRTAP1.1, KRTAP1A, hKAP1.7.
