KLK12

Description

The KLK12 (kallikrein related peptidase 12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Kallikrein-12 is a protein encoded by the KLK12 gene in humans. Kallikreins are a group of serine proteases with various functions in the body. Research suggests that many kallikreins are involved in cancer development and some could be used as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. The KLK12 gene is one of fifteen kallikrein genes found close together on chromosome 19. Different versions of the KLK12 gene are produced due to alternative splicing, leading to three different forms of the protein.

KLK12 is also known as KLK-L5, KLKL5.
