KLK11

Description

The KLK11 (kallikrein related peptidase 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Kallikrein-11 is a protein encoded by the KLK11 gene in humans. Kallikreins are a group of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are linked to cancer development, and some have potential as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. The KLK11 gene belongs to a cluster of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located on chromosome 19. Alternative splicing of this gene produces two transcript variants, leading to two different isoforms with distinct expression patterns.

Kallikrein-11 is a multifunctional protease. It effectively cleaves 'bz-Phe-Arg-4-methylcoumaryl-7-amide', a known kallikrein substrate. While it exhibits weaker activity towards other substrates commonly cleaved by kallikrein and trypsin, it demonstrates selectivity for cleaving synthetic peptides after arginine residues but not lysine residues.

KLK11 is also known as IEKD, PRSS20, TLSP.
