KLHL21

Description

The KLHL21 (kelch like family member 21) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

KLHL21 is a crucial component of a protein complex called BCR (BTB-CUL3-RBX1) E3 ubiquitin ligase. This complex plays a vital role in proper chromosome alignment and the final division of a cell (cytokinesis). KLHL21 helps to guide the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), a group of proteins involved in chromosome separation, from the chromosomes themselves to a specific region in the middle of the dividing cell called the spindle midzone. This relocation is achieved through the attachment of a small protein tag (ubiquitin) to another protein called AURKB. Interestingly, this tagging doesn't seem to directly lead to AURKB's breakdown.

KLHL21 is also known as -.
