KLHL18

Description

The KLHL18 (kelch like family member 18) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Kelch-like protein 18 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KLHL18 gene.

KLHL18 is an adaptor protein that forms part of a BCR (BTB-CUL3-RBX1) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. This complex plays a key role in cell division, specifically in the progression of mitosis and cytokinesis. It also regulates the localization of alpha-transducin, a protein involved in light sensing in the eye, by targeting it for ubiquitination and degradation. This process is dependent on light levels and helps protect photoreceptor cells from damage. The KLHL18 complex preferentially ubiquitinates the unphosphorylated form of UNC119, a protein that interacts with alpha-transducin, further regulating its activity.

KLHL18 is also known as -.
