KLF6

Description

The KLF6 (KLF transcription factor 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

Krueppel-like factor 6 (KLF6) is a protein encoded by the KLF6 gene in humans. It functions as a tumor suppressor gene. The protein contains three zinc fingers at its C-terminal domain, a serine/threonine-rich central region, and an acidic N-terminal domain. The zinc fingers bind to guanine-rich core promoter elements, while the central region may be involved in activation or posttranslational regulation. The acidic N-terminal domain plays a role in transcriptional activation. KLF6 can activate transcription approximately 4-fold on both homologous and heterologous promoters. Its DNA binding and transcriptional activity, along with its expression pattern, suggest involvement in the regulation and maintenance of basal expression of pregnancy-specific glycoprotein genes and possibly other TATA box-less genes. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene. KLF6 interacts with the Sp1 transcription factor.

KLF6 is also known as BCD1, CBA1, COPEB, CPBP, GBF, PAC1, ST12, ZF9.
