KIRREL2

Description

The KIRREL2 (kirre like nephrin family adhesion molecule 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Kin of IRRE-like protein 2, also known as NEPH3, is a protein encoded by the KIRREL2 gene in humans. It is primarily expressed in the β cells of the pancreatic islets. KIRREL2 is a member of the NEPH protein family, which includes NEPH1 (KIRREL) and NEPH2 (KIRREL3).

May play a role in regulating basal insulin secretion.

KIRREL2 is also known as FILTRIN, NEPH3, NLG1.
