KIF17

Description

The KIF17 (kinesin family member 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

KIF17 is a protein encoded by the KIF17 gene in humans. It belongs to the kinesin-2 family of motor proteins, which move along microtubules. Unlike other kinesin-2 motors, KIF17 forms homodimeric complexes, playing a role in transporting NMDA receptors along dendrites for delivery to the dendritic membrane. Both heterotrimeric and homodimeric kinesin-2 motors work together in intraflagellar transport (IFT) and cilium biogenesis.

KIF17 is a dendrite-specific motor protein that transports vesicles containing the NMDA receptor subunit NR2B along microtubules. This transport occurs in association with the Apba1-containing complex (LIN-10-LIN-2-LIN-7 complex).

KIF17 is also known as KIF17B, KIF3X, KLP-2, OSM-3.
