Description

KGFLP1 (Keratinocyte Growth Factor-Like Protein 1) is a protein encoded by the KLK7 gene. It is a member of the kallikrein family of serine proteases and is expressed in the skin, hair follicles, and nails.

KGFLP1 is involved in a number of processes related to skin development and homeostasis, including:

  • Cell proliferation and differentiation
  • Hair follicle growth
  • Nail growth
  • Sebum production
  • Wound healing

Associated Diseases

Mutations in the KLK7 gene have been linked to a number of skin diseases, including:

  • Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS): A group of genetic skin disorders that cause blistering and peeling of the skin.
  • Pachyonychia congenita (PC): A rare genetic disorder characterized by thickened nails, palms, and soles.
  • Nail-patella syndrome (NPS): A rare genetic disorder that affects the development of the nails, kneecaps, and other parts of the body.

Did you Know ?

Mutations in the KLK7 gene are estimated to cause approximately 1% of cases of EBS.
