KDR
Description:
Kidney Disease Resistance (KDR) is a rare X-linked recessive genetic disorder characterized by progressive scarring and loss of function in the kidneys. It is caused by mutations in the KDR gene, which codes for a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). VEGFR2 plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of blood vessels in the kidneys and other organs.
Associated Diseases:
KDR is associated with multiple kidney diseases, including:
- Alport syndrome: A condition characterized by progressive kidney disease, hearing loss, and eye abnormalities.
- Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS): A condition where scarring occurs in specific areas of the kidney filters.
- Hypertension: High blood pressure.
- Nephrotic syndrome: A condition characterized by heavy protein loss in the urine.
