KDM4C

Description

The KDM4C (lysine demethylase 4C) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

KDM4C is a human enzyme encoded by the KDM4C gene. It belongs to the Jumonji domain 2 (JMJD2) family and possesses several protein domains, including a JmjC domain, a JmjN domain, two PHD-type zinc fingers, and two Tudor domains. Located in the nucleus, KDM4C is a member of the alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent hydroxylase superfamily. Its primary function is to act as a trimethylation-specific demethylase, converting specific trimethylated histone residues to their dimethylated forms. Aberrant expression of KDM4C, including chromosomal alterations and increased transcription, has been linked to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Interestingly, KDM4C expression decreases during cardiac differentiation of murine embryonic stem cells.

KDM4C is also known as GASC1, JHDM3C, JMJD2C, TDRD14C.
