KDM3B

Description

The KDM3B (lysine demethylase 3B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

KDM3B, encoded by the KDM3B gene in humans, is an enzyme belonging to the alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent hydroxylase superfamily. It plays a vital role in regulating gene expression through its histone demethylase activity.

KDM3B is a histone demethylase that specifically removes methyl groups from lysine 9 of histone H3. This process plays a crucial role in the histone code, which regulates gene expression. During demethylation, KDM3B generates formaldehyde and succinate as byproducts. KDM3B may also have tumor suppressor activity.

KDM3B is also known as 5qNCA, C5orf7, DIJOS, JMJD1B, NET22.
