KDELR3
Description
The KDELR3 (KDEL endoplasmic reticulum protein retention receptor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.
KDELR3, encoded by the KDELR3 gene in humans, is a protein responsible for retaining resident soluble proteins within the ER lumen. This process involves retrieving these proteins from the cis-Golgi or a pre-Golgi compartment. Sorting of these proteins relies on a C-terminal tetrapeptide signal, KDEL in animal cells. KDELR3 functions as a receptor that recognizes and binds to proteins containing this signal, returning them to the ER. KDELR3 is highly similar to other members of the KDEL receptor family, namely KDELR1 and KDELR2. Two transcript variants of KDELR3, generated by alternative splicing, encode different isoforms of the KDELR3 receptor.
KDELR3 is a receptor that binds to the K-D-E-L sequence found on proteins residing in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This binding facilitates the recycling of these proteins from the Golgi apparatus back to the ER.
KDELR3 is also known as ERD23, ERD2L3.
