JOSD1

Description

The JOSD1 (Josephin domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

JOSD1 is a deubiquitinating enzyme that removes ubiquitin chains from proteins. It can cleave both 'Lys-63'-linked and 'Lys-48'-linked poly-ubiquitin chains. JOSD1 can also increase macropinocytosis (a type of cell eating) and suppress clathrin- and caveolae-mediated endocytosis (other ways cells take in material). Interestingly, JOSD1 can enhance membrane dynamics and cell motility even without its catalytic activity, suggesting it has other functions beyond removing ubiquitin.

JOSD1 is also known as dJ508I15.2.
