ITIH3

Description

The ITIH3 (inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain H3 is a protein produced by the ITIH3 gene in humans.

ITIH3 plays a key role in regulating hyaluronan, a crucial component of the extracellular matrix. It acts as a carrier protein for hyaluronan in the bloodstream and facilitates interactions between hyaluronan and other matrix proteins, including those found on cell surfaces. This regulation of hyaluronan localization, synthesis, and degradation is essential for cells undergoing various biological processes.

ITIH3 is also known as H3P, ITI-HC3, SHAP.
