ITIH1

Description

The ITIH1 (inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain H1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ITIH1 gene.

ITIH1 plays a crucial role in regulating the distribution, production, and breakdown of hyaluronan, a key component of the extracellular matrix. It acts as a transport protein for hyaluronan in blood and facilitates interactions between hyaluronan and other matrix proteins, including those found on cell surfaces. These functions are critical for cells undergoing various biological processes.

ITIH1 is also known as H1P, IATIH, IGHEP1, ITI-HC1, ITIH, SHAP.
