Ischemic Spondylolisthesis: A Comprehensive Guide

Description

Ischemic spondylolisthesis (ispd-as1) is a spinal condition characterized by the forward slippage of one vertebra over the one below it. This slippage is caused by a lack of blood supply to the intervertebral disc, which acts as a cushion between the vertebrae. The disc becomes weakened and degenerates, leading to the vertebra sliding forward.

Associated Diseases

Ischemic spondylolisthesis is often associated with underlying medical conditions such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Aortic atherosclerosis
  • Chronic kidney disease

Approximately 5-10% of all cases of spondylolisthesis are due to ischemia. This condition is most common in individuals over the age of 50.
