IPPK
Description
The IPPK (inositol-pentakisphosphate 2-kinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
IPPK phosphorylates inositol pentakisphosphate (Ins(1,3,4,5,6)P5) at the 2 position, generating inositol hexakisphosphate (Ins(1,2,3,4,5,6)P6), also known as InsP6 or phytate. InsP6 plays a crucial role in various cellular processes including mRNA export, DNA repair through non-homologous end-joining, endocytosis, and ion channel regulation. Additionally, InsP6 offers protection against cell death induced by tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha).
IPPK is also known as C9orf12, INSP5K2, IP5K, IPK1, bA476B13.1.
