INPP5B
Description
The INPP5B (inositol polyphosphate-5-phosphatase B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
Type II inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate 5-phosphatase is an enzyme encoded by the INPP5B gene in humans. It plays a role in cellular calcium signaling by inactivating inositol phosphates (IPs), which are produced by phospholipase C in response to extracellular signals. The protein is localized to the cytosol and mitochondria, associating with membranes through isoprenyl modification near the C-terminus. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full-length nature of some of these variants has not been determined.
INPP5B is also known as 5PTase.
