The IMP4 (IMP U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
IMP4 is a protein encoded by the IMP4 gene in humans. It is part of the U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (U3 snoRNP), a complex involved in ribosome biogenesis.
IMP4 is a component of the U3 small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (U3 snoRNP), a complex essential for the early cleavages during pre-18S ribosomal RNA processing. It is also part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, the first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, IMP4 participates in a complex interplay with ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins. This intricate collaboration leads to the generation of RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage, as well as the targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.
