IL1RAPL1

Description

The IL1RAPL1 (interleukin 1 receptor accessory protein like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

IL1RAPL1, also known as IL-1R9, is a protein encoded by the IL1RAPL1 gene, which is composed of 11 exons and spans about 1.37 Mb. It belongs to the interleukin-1 receptor family and is similar to the interleukin 1 accessory proteins, with the closest relation to IL1RAPL2. Mutations and deletions in IL1RAPL1 have been found in patients with mental retardation, as the gene is located in a region on chromosome X associated with X-linked non-syndromic mental retardation. Notably, IL1RAPL1 is highly expressed in post-natal brain structures involved in hippocampal memory, suggesting a critical role in memory and learning.

IL1RAPL1 may regulate secretion and presynaptic differentiation by inhibiting the activity of N-type voltage-gated calcium channels. It can also activate the MAP kinase JNK. Additionally, IL1RAPL1 plays a role in neurite outgrowth and can bidirectionally induce pre- and post-synaptic differentiation of neurons by trans-synaptically binding to PTPRD during dendritic spine formation.

IL1RAPL1 is also known as IL-1-RAPL-1, IL-1RAPL-1, IL1R8, IL1RAPL, IL1RAPL-1, MRX10, MRX21, MRX34, OPHN4, TIGIRR-2.
