IL13RA2

Description

The IL13RA2 (interleukin 13 receptor subunit alpha 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Interleukin-13 receptor subunit alpha-2 (IL-13Rα2), also known as CD213A2, is a membrane protein that is encoded by the IL13RA2 gene in humans. It is closely related to IL-13Rα1, a subunit of the interleukin-13 receptor complex. IL-13Rα2 binds IL13 with high affinity but lacks a significant cytoplasmic domain and does not appear to function as a signal mediator. However, it can regulate the effects of both IL-13 and IL-4 despite not being able to bind directly to IL-4. It is also reported to play a role in the internalization of IL13. IL-13Rα2 has been found to be over-expressed in various cancers, including pancreatic, ovarian, melanomas, and malignant gliomas.

IL-13Rα2 binds to interleukin-13 (IL13) as a monomer with high affinity, but does not bind to interleukin-4 (IL4).

IL13RA2 is also known as CD213A2, CT19, IL-13R, IL13BP.
