IL13RA1

Description

The IL13RA1 (interleukin 13 receptor subunit alpha 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

IL13RA1, also known as IL13RA1 and CD213A1, is a human gene that encodes a subunit of the interleukin 13 receptor. This subunit forms a receptor complex with IL4 receptor alpha, a subunit shared by IL13 and IL4 receptors. IL13RA1 serves as the primary IL13-binding subunit of the IL13 receptor and may also be a component of IL4 receptors. IL13RA1 binds to tyrosine kinase TYK2, potentially mediating the signaling processes that lead to the activation of JAK1, STAT3, and STAT6 induced by IL13 and IL4. Higher expression of IL13RA1 has been linked to increased survival rates in lung cancer patients.

IL13RA1 binds to interleukin-13 (IL13) with low affinity. It forms a functional receptor for IL13 when paired with IL4RA. IL13RA1 can also act as an alternative accessory protein to the common cytokine receptor gamma chain for interleukin-4 (IL4) signaling, but it cannot replace the function of IL2RG in enhancing interleukin-2 (IL2) binding.

IL13RA1 is also known as CD213A1, CT19, IL-13Ra, NR4.
