IL10RB-AS1

il10rb-as1: A Long Non-Coding RNA with Roles in Immunity and Disease

Description

il10rb-as1 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 1q32.1. LncRNAs are RNA molecules that are greater than 200 nucleotides in length and do not encode proteins. They have been found to play important roles in various biological processes, including gene regulation, immune response, and development.

il10rb-as1 is specifically expressed in immune cells, particularly macrophages and dendritic cells. It has been shown to regulate the expression of genes involved in the immune response, including those encoding the cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10). IL-10 is an immunosuppressive cytokine that plays a role in regulating immune responses and preventing excessive inflammation.

Associated Diseases

Dysregulation of il10rb-as1 expression has been linked to several diseases, including:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): il10rb-as1 is downregulated in patients with IBD, and its overexpression has been shown to protect against colitis in mouse models.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA): il10rb-as1 is upregulated in patients with RA, and its knockdown has been shown to alleviate disease severity in mouse models.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): il10rb-as1 is overexpressed in patients with SLE, and its knockdown has been shown to improve disease symptoms in mouse models.
  • Cancer: il10rb-as1 is overexpressed in several types of cancer, including lung cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. Its overexpression is associated with increased tumor growth and metastasis.

Did you Know ?

A recent study found that patients with IBD who had low levels of il10rb-as1 were more likely to experience disease flare-ups. This suggests that il10rb-as1 may be a potential biomarker for predicting disease severity in IBD.
