IKZF2

Description

The IKZF2 (IKAROS family zinc finger 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The IKZF2 gene encodes Helios, a member of the Ikaros family of transcription factors. This family comprises five members: Ikaros (Ikzf1), Helios (Ikzf2), Aiolos (Ikzf3), Eos (Ikzf4), and Pegasus (Ikzf5). These factors play a crucial role in hematopoietic development, with Ikaros being expressed in all hematopoietic cells. Helios forms dimers with other Ikaros family members, contributing to the regulation of gene expression. While multiple transcript variants exist, the biological relevance of some remains unclear. Defects in these factors can lead to impaired lymphocyte development. Due to the ability of Ikaros family members to interact and compensate for each other, pinpointing the specific function of each transcription factor is challenging.

IKZF2 is also known as ANF1A2, HELIOS, ZNF1A2, ZNFN1A2.
