IGSF8

Description

The IGSF8 (immunoglobulin superfamily member 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Immunoglobulin superfamily member 8 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGSF8 gene. IGSF8 has also been designated as CD316 (cluster of differentiation 316).

IGSF8 may play a significant role in various functions attributed to CD81 and CD9, including oocyte fertilization and hepatitis C virus activity. It may regulate keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. IGSF8 potentially acts as a negative regulator of cell motility, suppressing T-cell mobility in conjunction with CD81, associating with CD82 to suppress prostate cancer cell migration, and regulating epidermoid cell reaggregation and motility on laminin-5 with CD9 and CD81 as key links. Additionally, IGSF8 may contribute to integrin-dependent morphology and motility functions. It may participate in regulating neurite outgrowth and maintaining the neural network in the adult brain.

IGSF8 is also known as CD316, CD81P3, EWI-2, EWI2, KCT-4, LIR-D1, PGRL.
