IGFBP5

Description

The IGFBP5 (insulin like growth factor binding protein 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 5 (IGFBP-5) is a protein produced in humans by the IGFBP5 gene. Recent research has shown that an IGFBP5 gene is crucial for fish to adapt to changes in water salinity.

IGF-binding proteins, including IGFBP5, play a crucial role in regulating the activity of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). They increase the lifespan of IGFs in the body, influencing their ability to promote cell growth. However, their effect on cell growth can be either stimulatory or inhibitory, depending on the specific context. IGFBP5 also modulates the interaction between IGFs and their receptors on the surface of cells.

IGFBP5 is also known as IBP5.
