IGFBP1

Description

The IGFBP1 (insulin like growth factor binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The IGFBP1 gene encodes a protein belonging to the Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP) family. This protein contains an IGFBP domain and a type-I thyroglobulin domain, enabling it to bind to both insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) I and II. Its presence in the plasma extends the half-life of IGFs and modulates their interaction with cell surface receptors. Multiple isoforms of this protein have been identified through alternative splicing.

IGFBP1 is also known as AFBP, IBP1, IGF-BP25, PP12, hIGFBP-1.
