IFNA1

Description

The IFNA1 (interferon alpha 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Interferon alpha-1 (IFN-α1) is a protein encoded by the IFNA1 gene in humans. It belongs to the type I interferon family, a group of cytokines with antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory properties. The IFNA gene family, comprising 13 different IFN-alpha genes (including IFNA1), shares a high degree of amino acid sequence homology, suggesting a common ancestor gene. The human IFNA genes are thought to have arisen through gene conversion or recent duplication events. There are 12 functional human IFNA gene products.

IFNA1 is also known as IFL, IFN, IFN-ALPHA, IFN-alphaD, IFNA13, IFNA@, leIF D.
