IFI44L

Description

The IFI44L (interferon induced protein 44 like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

IFI44L is an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) that plays a key role in antiviral and antibacterial defense. It promotes macrophage differentiation and inflammatory cytokine secretion during bacterial infection. IFI44L effectively controls respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection by inhibiting viral replication. While exhibiting limited antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus, IFI44L acts as a feedback regulator of interferon responses by suppressing IKBKB and IKBKE kinase activity through its interaction with FKBP5.

IFI44L is also known as C1orf29, GS3686, TLDC5B.
