IFI27

Description

The IFI27 (interferon alpha inducible protein 27) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

Interferon alpha-inducible protein 27 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IFI27 gene.

IFI27, also known as interferon alpha-inducible protein 27, mitochondrial (p27), interferon alpha-induced 11.5 kDa protein, or interferon-stimulated gene 12a protein, is a probable adapter protein involved in diverse biological processes (PubMed:22427340, PubMed:27194766). It plays a role in apoptotic signaling pathways (PubMed:18330707, PubMed:27673746, PubMed:24970806), particularly in type-I interferon-induced apoptosis, characterized by the release of cytochrome C from mitochondria and activation of BAX and caspases 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9 (PubMed:18330707, PubMed:27673746). It also contributes to TNFSF10-induced apoptosis (PubMed:24970806). Additionally, IFI27 may function in the nucleus, regulating the transcriptional activity of NR4A1, NR4A2, and NR4A3 through enhanced XPO1-mediated nuclear export of these nuclear receptors (PubMed:22427340). This may influence the vascular response to injury (By similarity). In innate immunity, IFI27 exhibits antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus (HCV) (PubMed:27194766, PubMed:27777077), possibly by recruiting HCV non-structural protein 5A (NS5A) and the ubiquitination machinery via SKP2, leading to ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation of NS5A (PubMed:27194766, PubMed:27777077). It also promotes virus-induced pyroptosis by activating CASP3 in the mitochondria after 'Lys-6'-linked ubiquitination by TRIM21 (PubMed:36426955). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q8R412, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18330707, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22427340, ECO:0000269|PubMed:24970806, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27194766, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27673746, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27777077, ECO:0000269|PubMed:36426955}

IFI27 is also known as FAM14D, ISG12, ISG12A, P27.
