ICMT

Description

The ICMT (isoprenylcysteine carboxyl methyltransferase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The ICMT gene encodes a protein known as Protein-S-isoprenylcysteine O-methyltransferase. This enzyme is the third in a series of three enzymes responsible for modifying isoprenylated C-terminal cysteine residues in specific proteins. These modifications target the proteins to the cell membrane. ICMT is located in the endoplasmic reticulum. There may be other transcript variants resulting from alternative splicing, but their biological function is not yet known.

ICMT catalyzes the post-translational methylation of isoprenylated C-terminal cysteine residues.

ICMT is also known as HSTE14, MST098, MSTP098, PCCMT, PCMT, PPMT.
