The ICAM5 (intercellular adhesion molecule 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
Intercellular adhesion molecule 5 (ICAM5) is a protein encoded by the ICAM5 gene in humans. It belongs to the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family, which are type I transmembrane glycoproteins with 2-9 immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains. ICAM proteins bind to the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1. ICAM5 is found on the surface of telencephalic neurons and exhibits two types of adhesion activity: homophilic binding between neurons and heterophilic binding between neurons and leukocytes. It plays a crucial role in interactions between neurons and microglial cells during normal development and in neurodegenerative diseases. ICAM5 has been shown to interact with PSEN1.
ICAM proteins bind to the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1, which is also known as integrin alpha-L/beta-2.
ICAM5 is also known as TLCN, TLN.
