HSF2

Description

The HSF2 (heat shock transcription factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

HSF2, encoded by the HSF2 gene, is a protein that binds specifically to the heat shock element and has homology to HSFs in other species. Heat shock transcription factors like HSF2 activate genes involved in the heat-shock response when cells are under stress, such as heat exposure. Although HSF1 and HSF2 were named for historical reasons, they should be referred to as heat-shock transcription factors. HSF2 has been shown to interact with Nucleoporin 62 and HSF1.

HSF2 is a DNA-binding protein that specifically binds to heat shock promoter elements (HSE) and activates transcription. In higher eukaryotes, like humans, HSF2 can only bind to HSE when the cells are under stress, such as heat shock.

HSF2 is also known as HSF 2, HSTF 2.
