HSD17B11

Description

The HSD17B11 (hydroxysteroid 17-beta dehydrogenase 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

HSD17B11 is a human gene that encodes for the enzyme Estradiol 17-beta-dehydrogenase 11. Increased expression of HSD17B11 has been linked to improved survival rates in lung cancer patients.

HSD17B11 catalyzes the conversion of androstan-3-alpha,17-beta-diol (3-alpha-diol) to androsterone, indicating a potential role in androgen metabolism during steroidogenesis. It may regulate steroid synthesis by metabolizing compounds that stimulate the process or by producing inhibitory metabolites. HSD17B11 exhibits limited activity towards testosterone, converting it to A-dione, but shows no activity towards DHEA or A-dione. HSD17B11 has been identified as a tumor-associated antigen in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

HSD17B11 is also known as 17-BETA-HSD11, 17-BETA-HSDXI, 17BHSD11, DHRS8, PAN1B, RETSDR2, SDR16C2.
