HPGDS

Description

The HPGDS (hematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

HPGDS is a bifunctional enzyme with two primary activities: It catalyzes the conversion of PGH2 to PGD2, a prostaglandin involved in smooth muscle contraction/relaxation and a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It also conjugates glutathione with a wide range of aryl halides and organic isothiocyanates. Additionally, HPGDS exhibits low glutathione-peroxidase activity towards cumene hydroperoxide.

HPGDS is also known as GSTS, GSTS1, GSTS1-1, PGD2, PGDS.
