HPCAL1

Description

The HPCAL1 (hippocalcin like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Hippocalcin-like protein 1 is a protein encoded by the HPCAL1 gene. It belongs to the neuron-specific calcium-binding proteins family, found in the retina and brain. This protein is highly similar to human hippocalcin protein and nearly identical to rat and mouse hippocalcin like-1 proteins. It may play a role in calcium-dependent regulation of rhodopsin phosphorylation, potentially contributing to neuronal signaling in the central nervous system. There are two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene, with multiple polyadenylation sites.

HPCAL1 is also known as BDR1, HLP2, VILIP-3.
