HOXD11
Description
The HOXD11 (homeobox D11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
The HOXD11 gene belongs to the homeobox family, a group of genes critical for development in multicellular organisms. HOXD11 is located on chromosome 2, within a cluster of HOXD genes. It encodes a transcription factor, Homeobox protein Hox-D11, involved in shaping the body plan, particularly the limbs and genitalia. Deletions affecting the HOXD gene cluster, including HOXD11, are associated with severe birth defects, highlighting its importance in normal development. Research on the mouse counterpart, Hoxd11, suggests its role in forming the axial skeleton and forelimbs.
HOXD11 is also known as HOX4, HOX4F.
