HOXC10

Description

The HOXC10 (homeobox C10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

HOXC10 is a human gene that encodes a homeobox protein called Hox-C10. Homeobox genes are a family of genes that play a crucial role in morphogenesis, the development of the form and structure of an organism. HOXC10 is one of several homeobox genes located on chromosome 12. Its expression is regulated during cell differentiation and proliferation, suggesting a role in activating specific developmental processes. HOXC10 is found to be overexpressed in breast cancer and its expression is regulated by estrogen through interactions with histone methylases MLL3 and MLL4. Methylation of HOXC10 is associated with resistance to aromatase inhibitors, a type of breast cancer treatment. This epigenetic change in HOXC10 is often observed in endocrine-resistant breast cancer.

HOXC10 is also known as HOX3I.
